I have been having problems with my tranny. 2nd gear is done. Im looking to rebuild it. Is there anyway to bulletproof it w/o going with ppg gears? Dont really want that annoying whine with straight cut gears. Is there any other alternatives?? Carbon synchros? Etc..
Carbon synchros don't bullet-proof anything in the way of strength to gears. As for keeping the stock gears, there are a couple people around the country that treat all gears, ring gear, and the two shafts by freezing them. It has worked quite well with most B-series guys. Haven't seen too many K owners do this yet though. Beyond that, PPG has their K trans parts, which you seem to know about, and MFactory *might* have something out.
At the end of the day, nothing is "bullet-proof". Anything mechanical can and will break unfortunately.
The threshold must be about 300 lb/ft. of torque, or so. That would explain why supercharged cars never break transmissions. Probably, it's the sudden torque load of the turbo motor that does it. Whatever the weakest link is, the car will find it. Tires hook, axles hold, clutch holds, second gear goes.
$400 for the 1st and 2nd carbon synchros w 2nd gear. not bad. i only have 80k on my car and it wont even drop into 2nd with a hard shift from 1st. im sure there is a thread where the carbon synchros are discussed.off to search
Chris, can you elaborate? When, how long, what model? Did they use the Synchrotech parts or make there own carbon coated synchros and then abort the project?
I am having a tranny issue that only happens after I have been on track for a while. I need to fix it and that is why I am researching this stuff. Here is a description of the problem. http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=648342 Let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions.
Since you are actually doing enough to get a transmission to really heat up, I'd look into possibly plumbing some coolant through the casing. You may want to start off by getting a temp sensor and logging the temps to see what's going on before that though.
the 1st and 2nd gear synchros are still in testing stages from what i was told when i called synchro tech. but i had a friend who had the 1st and 2nd gear carbon synchros from sychro tech in his. said he had some connect. i need to know how to get some because i need new synchros really bad.
Ya I pulled my tranny apart to find 5 missing teeth off the mainshaft 4th gear and 3 off the countershaft 4th gear. All the synchros looked good except the 1st gear and when i pressed the gears off i found out that the 2nd gear got worn alot more than any of the synchros so i had to order the whole new 2nd gear set from CRSX so i have a 1st or 2nd synchro for sale if anyone needs one.
I always thought it was the synchros that wore out and cause it to not go into gear but from my tranny it was the small teeth on the 2nd gear that were rounded down to cause it to not go in as easy.
Ya i dont understand either. I always thought the synchros wore out before the gears and the gears got worn b/c the synchros were bad or would grind so on... Guess thats not what happens at all lol.
has anyone else noticed that you can get either 3rd & 4th gears OR 4th & 5th gears to align (countershaft gears with mainshaft) but you can never get all three to line up with each other's counterparts?
in a road-racing tsx we tend to break whichever gear doesn't line up
i hate these fucking trans whoever created them should die. im currently having problem under WOT 1st-2nd then 3rd and 1st gets real stiff like its dry. 1 time it was 1st, 3rd, and 5th that got real stiff. felt like it was welding or some shit. someboy said it could be a shift fork. i dunno imma try changing the fluid over to amsoil syncro and if that doesnt work imma give-up drying fast, atleast from 1st-2nd. hell im willing to sacrafice and go to 5 speed for reliability.
05-06 6speed? they should be compatible with the 02-04 models right? The newer ones have better synchros and what not. Theyre a hell of alot smoother, my friend has an 06 and his tranny makes it feel soo much better than my 02. Maby a tranny swap sometime down the road.
damn that blows. i my friends is just fresher since its a newer car, feels soo much better.
