DIY Coilover Install

Alright well i had to start a new thread so people dont get confused.

Here are the torque specs for you guys, right out of the helms manual
Front
Brake line is 16 ft lbs
ABS line is 7.2 ft lbs
Both lower strut bolts are 76 ft lbs
Top 3 bolts are 33ft lbs
Rear
Top upper bolts are 43 ft lbs
Rear bottom bolt is 45ft lbs.

If your going to loosen the tie rod the bolt is 15/16ths and 14mm to hold the inner tie rod to tighten the tie rod end nut.

FRONT INSTALLATION
1 Jack up the car, if you dont know how to do that or put jack stand under a car please stop now lol

2 Tools needed are 19mm for tie rod strut lower bolts and rim. 7/8ths wrench to hold nuts for lower strut bolt.10mm for ABS and 12mm for brake line, 14mm for strut bolts. Torque wrench and air gun.

3 Wheels off and time to check rotors and pads as well.
Remove tie rod by hitting the strut arm with a hammer until the tie rod is loose, or use a tie rod puller. Unbolt abs and brake line, and take both bottom strut bolts out. Leave the knuckle and brakes at the opposite side of which ur gonna pull the strut out. Left side came out towards the front of the car and the right side was opposite....Unbolt 2 of the 3 strut bolts and leave em on the cowl close to reach if 1 person installation....BE EXTREMLY CAREFULL BEFORE REMOVING THE THIRD BOLT MAKE SURE U OR SOMEONE ELSE IS HOLDING THE STRUT SO U DONT RUPTURE THE CV JOINTS.

Tip...Unscrew the tie rod nut for adjustment so when u out it back on u can sorta eye ball it bfeore the alignment and ur not driving crooked.

4 Heres old and new, which looks better?

5 Do exactly the opposite putting it back in, but use either a jack under the control arm or ur thighs and push up on the knuckle and brakes to line up the holes. This will be much higher then stock

6 Picture of the front dropped after install

REAR INSTALLATION...Tools Needed are 17mm socket or wrench for bottom bolt and breaker bar, and 14mm wrench or socket with extension and swivel.
7 Only pic i took of the rear because its just so dam easy...One 17mm bolt on the bottom and 2 14mm nuts up top.....The bottom bolt wont wanna come out but u can use a pry bar and try to pull the bolt out or push it thru the other side of the bolt. Another way is to use a jack and a small deep socket that will fit under the strut so u can lift it up and remove the bolt...I tried all these and it didnt work for me since the bolts are old so i pried against it with a pry bar and shot it with the gun lol.

8 I decided to cut it, makes adjusting it SO SO much easier....Kinda hard to see the back nut, thats because it is lol...For installation do everything backwards, and once the wheels are tight and torqued, tighten the 14mm nut under the adjusting screw


I realized i didnt write how to put it back in so here it is. Put the lower bolt in first and tighten it. Make sure the top hat is ligned up with the 2 holes for studs. Put the jack under the suspension and jack it up until the top hat is thru the holes and then put both nuts on and tighten it.

REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW..
All points are from a scale 1-10 10 being the best.
Installation=7
Installation went relatively well except for the torching of the front right lower strut bolt which was seized in there. Made sure all my perches were tight, made sure pre-load setting hadnt changed. Now after everything is done go thru the hood and adjust toe by rotating the inner tie rod either towards the back or front to change toe.Try and get it as straight as possible for both wheels while making sure ur steering wheel stays straight...This is all for being able to drive to an alignment place afterwards.
Built Quality=9
The built quality on these are amazing def much better then oem built and much better then tein from what ive seen. Only reason for the 9 is no abs or brake line brackets.
Steering Feel=10
Steering feel has greatly improved, steering feels more solid. Making turns is easier and switching lanes feel safer.
Ride Comfort=10
Unbelievable.. i have mine set to 7 front and 10 rear. I gotta say it rides much better then what i had before, car feels more solid.... I will be playing around with the settings and see how it rides and if any of the perches come loose. If they havent tonight then they never will lol.
Handling=12
Sorry guys i had to give it a good rating because they truly took my breath away. And i noticed it in the first turn i took on the back roads. Why didnt my body move? Car feels so incredibly neutral, i will post again once i set my alignment.

If anyone has any questions about installation or would like me to add anything to my review then please feel free to ask.
P.S. I did find a way to adjust the rear but i didnt try it lol after almost 3hrs i just wanted to see how it handled.

nice write up, nice pics, i just wish it was for the megans! only reason is cuz mine are comin in thursday! i cant freakin wait. im doin the instal myself, im just confused why you took apart the whole damn coilover?!?!? lol, i was plannin to just leave the preload the way it is for the megans and adjust the shock body to the height i desire.( probably the lowest cuz the new ones come with an extra perch and make it sit a lil higher).

anyways, other than that ... yea go wash that beast and after that you can take some "random pics after install" ... lol jk .... its still an rsx which is really what matters!

its mainly because for the rear coilover, the height adjustment is inside the springs and boot

haha thanks guys hopefully we can get this stickied. I spend 4-5 hrs detailing the car last time and it snowed a couple days later and they salted the roads way to much so the roads dont ice up. Oh well im gonna wash it fri since its gonna snow tomorrow. i gotta find a way to clean my undercarriage to my exhaust was covered in that shit.

Spoon yes it did drop exactly how i wanted it which was to keep my original drop.My lower control arms are pretty much parallel with the ground so 2in is the max drop without messing up ur LCA angles.

If these can stand up to the MA winters then u guys should be alright.
