Diy: Buddyclub Short Shifter (56k Take A Break)

i know this is probably one of alot of ss diy. but alot of people like myself used the search feature but it seems to show only either ForSale or reviews but not an actual DIY. so heres another DIY SS install.

FYI: yes it is a buddyclub ss it's the 1st generation (non-adjustable) one i got it from my friend and yes i know buddyclub ss are black. he said. buddyclub asked him if he wanted to sell an SS with no buddyclub logo or box. he brought it and sold it to me a good choice indeed :giggitygiggity:

DISCLAIMER: DO THIS DIY AT YOUR OWN RISK. IF YOU MESS SOMETHING UP THEN THAT'S NOT MY FAULT

tools you need:

*3/8 ratchet w/extension
*12mm socket
*flat head
*screwdriver
*pliers
*white lithium grease
*time and patience

take off your shift knob. if you can't do this step. don't bother continuing with this DIY

next take off your mid console part. careful not to break the clips! then remove the two gold screws.

then take off the upper part. once again be extra careful not to break any clips. then remove the 2 black screws. and unplug the power from the cigarette lighter

next remove the two screws in the back. you need to pull your seat all the way to the front to see the screw. theres one in each side. dont forget to unplug the wire from the cigarette lighter. then remove console.

it should look like this once you remove the center console.

next part is to remove the shifter cables. i forgot to take a picture of it. but here's a pic i took from [iVTECdaily] DIY for the revo SS.

side by side. stock OEM shifter on the left. buddyclub short shifter on the right.

next is probably the most hardest part i did. was removing the stupid rubber bushings ha... transfer the rubber bushings from the OEM shifter to the new short-shifter.

now put everything back together.... put some white lithium grease when you connect the shifter cables back to your new short-shifter

your done! when i test drove mine. it felt real solid. theres no play at all. so pretty much im satisfied with it. to buddyclub for making a good short-shifter :giggitygiggity:

Wonder if you could pair the buddy club SS with the Comptech SS.

+ 1 Rep for you

Great DIY. Kind of funny you just posted this. I just finished my install yesterday. Here's a link to something I did with mine to make it feel a little more solid.

Deadening Material on Short Shifter

I heard a couple people say removing the bushings was difficult. With a flat head screw driver you can do them in about 5 seconds without slicing your hand like someone else did.

Just flip the shifter upside down. If you're sitting in a chair kind of put the stick between your thighs up by your knees. Just insert the screwdriver at an angle between the aluminum bushing and rubber grommet and like a lever pry the bushing up and out of the grommet. Then insert the screwdriver between the grommet and shifter and do the same. They both pop out with wasting any effort. My thought is that people are trying to remove the bushing and grommet as one piece.

well as of now. it doesn't really have any play at all. it feels solid. i was gonna buy some bushings but then again most of them were out of stock. it's okay ill just change it when i feel like it. its not that hard to remove the shifter box anyway. its just time consuming.

haha sweet. how does it feel? about the rubber bushings yeah it was a pain. i just wanted to get it off doing so. i did cut my finger just a small cut nothing big but yeah maybe next time when i change it to metal bushings i will try your technique

and thanks to the person who ever gave me a +rep

i dont think its possible to pair the comptech with the BC. the comptech requires you drill the stock shifter, and there's no place on the BC for you to drill (cuz you got the allen nut).

doing this may be potentially hazardous to your shifter cables.. the SS can potentially add stress to the shifter cables and therefore allow them to eventually snap..

it is my assumption that SS in general do this.. and so adding one ss to another ss (assuming that they can be put together).. is just adding stress on top of stress to the cables..

^ i can agree to this....I don't know much about how SS housing feels, but I think the SS adapters such as DC and Comptech can put some stress on the cables. Not enough for them to snap (although DC had problems) but if the housings cause stress, no doubt the combination will cause more stress..

Does any know how the BCSS compares to the Revo SS? Reason I ask is that I have the Revo in my '01 Civic and need to get an SS for my gf's RSX.

i thought BC sturdier than the revo SS even if its nearly the same design.
