P1078 - Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) System Malfunction (High rpm)

There was a thread on this before but no definite answer. The car runs rough at both high and low rpm

Has anyone had this problem before and found a fix?

Is it a complete replacement of the intake manifold or a fix of the part.
If so, how much did it cost?

The car is running rough as hell and I'm afraid this issue is going to cause some other issues.

Any help would be appreciated

This problem is the sensor however, my issue deals with the actual runner I believe. Thanks though

Any more suggestions?

unless there a problem with the vacuum hose or the wiring, the manual advises to replace the solenoid valve.

I had a tech look at my car over the weekend with the same error code and was saying I needed to replace the solenoid. I called up Acura while ago and explained to them the best I could about what I needed IMRC solenoid and they acted like they were clueless.

Any ideas on where I can get this part?

yes, most mechanics will give you the WTF look when you mention that code.

I replaced that part. It came as an assembly with the sensor attached to the runner value and chamber. I fixed it last year and it seemed to fix the problem.

When replacing it, you have to remove the entire intake manifold so watch out for the coolant bypass hose (plug it before hand).

So you were verifying that is the correct part I'm after?
Remove the entire intake manifold? Is that all that hard? Tech was saying it would be rather simple just one bolt and a couple of hoses.. but just what he mentioned.

That was the solution to my problem. If you look at the diagram, it has the chamber attached to the long part (runner valve).

The runner valve with the chamber must slide out (towards passenger side) out of the intake manifold. Therefore, you must remove the entire manifold assembly. It is all one piece (chamber and runners).

Parts cost me around 150-160. Labour is about 1.5 hours, even faster if you're familiar with removing IM. You don't have to replace the entire intake manifold assembly but the entire unit has to be removed.

All you have to replace is the runner valve which spans the entire width of the manifold once installed.

I can ran sluggish like I had lost all power or had a major vacuum leak.

I'm just B.C. too so hope this answers some questions

You can buy the solenoid separately - you don't have to buy/replace the entire runner.

Why do you guys think replacing the solenoid alone won't fix his problem?

cel comes on and off and came back on today so i had it scanned and got this code with two others that are for another issue. i wanted to look into fixing this issue but not sure what to get.

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

Try Seafoam through the brake booster line.

You're just throwing the code? Did you do anything to troubleshoot?

IMRC Solenoid worked for p1078

36163-PND-A01 VALVE ASSY., BYPASS CONTROL SOLENOID 2003 RSX

I understand that this is an old thread, but I've been studying these message boards for months to fix this problem. I just got the IMRC Solenoid and replaced it yesterday, which effectively killed the p1078 trouble code. I hope this helps others who are having this problem.
